BRASHER FALLS — The St. Lawrence Central boys basketball team overcame a slow start in posting a 71-45 win at home over Potsdam Central in the semifinals of the Section 10 Class C tournament on Monday. With the win, the top-seeded Larries advanced to Saturday’s sectional final at SUNY Potsdam starting at 6 p.m. where they will go up against second-seeded defeinding champion Brushton-Moira, which rolled to an 80-31 decision at home over Tupper Lake in the other Monday evening semifinal. SLC 71, Potsdam 45: After giving up the first six points of the game, the Larries regrouped to outscore the Sandstoners 19-6 the rest of the first quarter and never looked back. Sophomore Matt Burg sparked the winning offense with a career-high 28 points that included four three-pointers. Jared Young tossed through another 15 points. Cash Feeley worked the paint for another 12 followed by Kolby Perkins with sevem Shiloh Winters with six, Cole Meacham with two and Napadol Satthathip with one. The Sandstoners (1-21) were led by senior Garrett Mattimore with 12 points. Teddy Rice added 11 followed by Lucas Bird with nine and Zahir Purvis with five while John Ashlaw, Nic Gregg, Dan French and Gavin Mattimore all finished with two. The Larries (12-9) will now gear up to play for the section title for the first time since winning back-to-back crowns in 2012 and 2013. SLC outscored BMC 63-38 in the only regular season meeting between the two teams. St. Lawrence Central's Matt Berg (10) connects on a jump shot over Potsdam's Jahir Purvis (52) for two of his 28 points to lead the Larries in a 71-45 win over Potsdam in the Section X Class C semifinals.
