2017 HARRISVILLE OUTLASTS MASSENA BOYS BASKETBALL TO ADVANCE 59-57 Section X
Harrisville’s Jaden Sullivan (10) fires up a jump shot past Massena defender James Donnelly (31) to score and bring the Pirates lead over the Red Raiders to three points early in the first quarter. The Pirates narrowly defeated the Red Raiders 59-57 to advance to the Section X Overall Championship where they will take on the Canton Golden Bears. Massena’s Joshua Sheets (10) leaps over two Harrisville defenders to score off the jump shot to give the Red Raiders a one-point lead in the first quarter. The Class D champion Harrisville Pirates led the whole first half, edging out to a 28-25 halftime lead over the Class A champion Massena Red Raiders. The Pirates conducted a 19-12 run in the third quarter to expand their lead, enough to hold off the surging Raiders in the final quarter. Massena outscored Harrisville 17-12 in the final frame, behind a game-best 31 points from Dante Viskovich. Josh Sheets dropped in eight points for the Raiders. However, a balanced Harrisville offense ruled the night. Trenton Sullivan tossed in 16 points, while Peyton Schmitt scored 14 and both Dalton Church and Ryan Weaver netted 13 points each. Church launched a pair of key three-pointers in the final frame that doomed Massena’s comeback attempt. Harrisville will play Canton for the overall Section X championship on March 3rd.
